College counseling is part of the upper school curriculum.
The MMFS college counselors are not only experts in their fields, but experts in every student. The College Counseling office in the upper school is a warm and welcoming place, and students meet regularly with our team. When it is time to apply to college, the team knows each student well, and can recommend programs that match their strengths, style, and interests.

What a student needs is what we are here to provide.
College counseling is highly individualized and tailored to each student. Juniors and seniors take the full-year class College Seminar (aka College Sem) which covers everything from post-secondary options to essay development. Each junior and senior is assigned a college counselor with whom they meet regularly to explore ideas for the future, and then to guide them through applications and interviews. Each year we host in-school visits with representatives from at least 40 colleges and post-secondary programs.

College preparation includes the whole family. We invite families to their first College Night when the student is in 9th and 10th grade to provide an overview of post-secondary options and the process of choosing and applying to programs. There is also an annual Financial Aid Night to help our families navigate the complexities of financing higher education. Starting in 10th grade, we provide families with the opportunity to schedule a conference with a member of the College Counseling team.

When acceptances arrive, we work with each student and family to help them make the best choice, and to make sure that our students carry with them the self-advocacy tools that are a hallmark of an MMFS education.
